Telecommunications meet society’s need to exchange and access voice, data, and video information regardless of distance, in the shortest possible time, and without interruption. Today, business operations and the interactivity of existing applications—such as information-sharing systems, social media, blogs, and others—require a robust infrastructure that operates without interruption.
As a telecommunications engineer, you will be responsible for planning, designing, and maintaining this infrastructure. You will also build and configure the applications that enable its operation, and determine the costs and operating times required for an effective, secure, and efficient service.
Today's telecommunications systems consist of optical communications networks, wireless networks using various technologies (Wi-Fi, WiMax, etc.), satellite networks, cellular networks (GSM, LTE, etc.), microwave networks, radio and television broadcast networks, telemedicine networks, remote control networks, and all other networks that may emerge in the future. All of these networks are operated by a telecommunications engineer like you; therefore, your imagination will shape the development of future networks and their applications.
