It brings together faculty members from the Physics, Mathematics, and Chemistry divisions. In 1966, the Department of Basic Sciences was established, and in 1970, the current Academic Department of Sciences was formed. Its functions include providing faculty to teach courses in their respective specialties for the University’s General Studies program and its colleges, and promoting faculty research.

Jorge Moreno
He holds a Master’s degree in Applied Physics from PUCP and a Ph.D. from the Technical University of Berlin (TU Berlin). He served as Head of the Academic Department of Sciences from 2014 to 2017 and as Dean of General Studies in the Sciences from 2017 to 2019. A researcher and author of more than 30 publications in books and articles, he is a full-time senior faculty member in the Physics Division and coordinator of the Acoustics and Vibrations Laboratory Group. In addition, he serves on the Board of Directors of the Ibero-American Federation of Acoustics (FIA), holding the position of vice president for a second consecutive term.
