An academic unit that plays a vital role in a student’s university education, as during the first two years (four semesters) it provides the foundation for a humanistic and interdisciplinary education upon which students can later build as they pursue a specific degree program. Through General Studies, students acquire the knowledge and develop the skills that will serve them for the rest of their lives.

She holds a Ph.D. in history from the University of Florence, Italy, and a bachelor’s and master’s degree in history from the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru, where she serves as a Full Professor in the Department of Humanities, Director of the Master’s Program in History, and a member of the Steering Committee for the Doctoral Program in History. She is a Full Member of the National Academy of History of Peru. Her most recent books, published in 2021, are *The Faces of Independence: The Birth of Peru Through the Lives of Its Protagonists*, *Women of Action: Female Participation in the Wars of Republican Peru*, and, co-authored with Nelson Pereyra, *State, Memory, and Society in Ayacucho, Cusco, and Lima*. Finally, he is the author of *The Struggle for Freedom: Rebellion, War, and Independence in Peru, 1780–1826*.
