Ruben Guevara
Ruben Guevara holds a Ph.D. and an M.Sc. in Natural Resource Economics and Management from the University of Idaho in the United States, where he also earned his B.Sc. in Natural Resource Management from Stephen F. Austin State University (graduating summa cum laude). In addition, he has supplemented his education with the PMD program at Harvard Business School, Harvard University, and has participated in the Colloquium on Participant-Centered Learning (CPCL Program) at the same institution. He has also deepened his knowledge and refined his perspective on corporate sustainability by participating in The Prince of Wales Business & Sustainability Program at the Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership at the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom.
He is the author or co-author of more than 80 publications, including books, book chapters, non-scientific articles in trade journals, and scientific articles in journals indexed in Scopus and/or the Web of Science. He is currently a member of the Board of Directors and treasurer of the Harvard Club of Peru, the association of Harvard University alumni in the country, and is a shareholder and board member of two Peruvian family-owned export companies and another family-owned company in Honduras.
Throughout his career, he has held leadership positions in multilateral agencies, nongovernmental organizations, and governments. He served as Regional Manager for South America in the Campaigns, Policy, and Communications Division of Oxfam Great Britain in the United Kingdom. He also served as Regional Director for Latin America and the Caribbean at ITTO/UNCTAD in Japan; Regional Director for Latin America at the World Agroforestry Centre, a global center for basic and applied research affiliated with CGIAR and the World Bank and located in Kenya. Additionally, he served as Director General, President, and professor at the Tropical Agricultural Research and Graduate Education Center, a Latin American regional center for basic and applied research located in Costa Rica. In addition, he served as Deputy Minister of Natural Resources (and the Environment) of Honduras, among other positions. He has also served as a consultant to companies, governments, and international organizations in Latin America, Africa, and Southeast Asia.
His experience also includes high-level negotiations with governments and multilateral organizations, as well as active participation as a member of more than 30 boards of directors across various sectors. His professional career is marked by strategic leadership, international reach, and a commitment to people and excellence in higher education.
At Centrum PUCP, he has held various senior leadership positions, including Senior Professor of Strategic Management and Leadership, Director of CENTRUM Research, Director of CENTRUM Academic Programs—overseeing the MBA, specialized master’s, and doctoral programs—coordinator of the Business Studies Group, the second most productive group at our university, and Acting Director General. He has been recognized as a Distinguished Professor and named one of the best professors of the year for several years.
He is currently the chair of the Board of Directors and the executive director of Centrum PUCP. He is also a senior professor at the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru.
