This project investigates how the relationship between small-scale miners and authorities has changed over time and its repercussions in the regulation of the sector across the Andes. The project has already concluded and submitted its first paper titled "From Celebrated to Criminalized: Historical Transformations in the Political Economy of Small-Scale Mining in Colombia".

Este proyecto hecho en colaboración con Maritza Paredes (PI) y José Incio (co-investigador) investiga las distintas estrategias de actores lícitos e ilícitos alrededor de economías extractivas para influenciar el diseño y reforma de políticas que favorecen el aumento de la deforestación en regiones amazónicas. El trabajo de campo se concluyó y un primer manuscrito ya fue presentado en conferencia durante el 2025. Este proyecto es financiado por ProCiencia.

Este proyecto, en co-autoría con Maritza Paredes, investiga las distintas estrategias de lobby político empleado por los líderes de distintas economías ilícitas para influenciar la reforma o contra reforma de políticas que afectan sus intereses. La investigación se enfoca en cuándo, cómo y por qué estos actores logran tener éxito. La investigación contó con el financiamiento FOSI y ya ha presentado avances en conferencia.

The project, under the leadership of the research group MEGA (CIPR- Tulane University), investigates what happens after the adoption of policy favoring social movements around extractive conflicts. We look into the determinants of the implementation of such policies and if the goals of the movement are achieved.
