Creation of an Archive of Wampis Oral Literature

The aim of this project is to set up an archive of oral tradition for the Wampis language (formerly known as Huambisa) with high-quality voice and, when possible, video recordings. This project will provide training and basic technological resources to the main Wampis consultants so that they have an active role in the recording and processing of the data. The archive of oral tradition will not only help document the language and large portions of the Wampis culture, but it will also provide an invaluable resource for Wampis language and cultural promotion, as well as for intercultural education efforts. In addition, this archive will expand our knowledge of Wampis culture, which at present is little known.
