Iron oxide¿apatite (IOA) deposits are an important source of key metals for industry (Fe) and high-technology (REE, Co and V), yet their genesis as well as their relationships with spatially co-existing iron oxide ¿ copper-gold (IOCG) and iron skarn deposits remain poorly understood. In this project, we propose to apply triple oxygen isotope (δ18O, Δ17O) analysis to magnetite from five Peruvian IOA, IOCG and iron skarn deposits to unravel the geologic processes involved in their formation and to determine whether there exist any genetic links between them. The results will help refine the intensely debated genetic models for these globally important ore deposit types, will provide new insights into the metallogenic and tectonic evolution of the central Andes, and will benefit mineral exploration in Peru and elsewhere.
